Carbon Smart Energy

About us

Hard Red Energy (HRE) was founded on a simple idea: that the future of energy should be built from what we already have—waste streams, overlooked resources, and practical innovation. By transforming agricultural residues like wheat straw into renewable natural gas, power, and low-carbon fuels, HRE is unlocking new value from the ground up.

Operating across the United States and Australia, HRE develops and delivers integrated energy solutions designed for a changing world. Our platform combines RNG production, power generation, carbon capture, and biogenic CO₂ supply to create flexible, dispatchable energy systems that work alongside existing infrastructure while reducing emissions at scale.

A key part of our vision is supporting the transition to low-carbon marine fuels. HRE is developing fuel supply solutions that help decarbonize shipping and heavy transport—sectors where reliable, energy-dense fuels are essential. By bridging agriculture, energy, and logistics, we are creating pathways for cleaner fuels to reach global markets.

At our core, HRE is building more than energy projects—we are building a new model. One that turns waste into opportunity, strengthens rural economies, and delivers practical, scalable solutions for the industries that need them most.

Low Carbon Transport Fuels

Hard Red Energy is supporting the decarbonisation of road transport by supplying compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) for commercial trucking fleets. Produced from agricultural residues, our fuel offers a low-carbon alternative to diesel without compromising performance or reliability.

By leveraging existing gas infrastructure and developing strategic distribution networks, HRE provides a consistent and scalable supply of RNG to fleet operators. This enables heavy-duty transport to reduce emissions today, using proven engine technologies and established refuelling systems.

Through partnerships with logistics providers and infrastructure developers, HRE is helping drive the transition to cleaner, more sustainable road freight.

Shipping fuels have long been one of the hardest sectors to decarbonize. Hard Red Energy is addressing this challenge by converting the world’s vast, underutilized agricultural residues into low-carbon fuels at the scale required by the maritime industry.

By strategically locating our facilities, we leverage existing gas transmission infrastructure while investing in port infrastructure and bunkering capabilities. This enables us to deliver practical, scalable fuel solutions that support the shipping industry in meeting its decarbonization targets.

With operations across the east and west coasts of the United States, Australia, and into South America, HRE is building a reliable global supply of biofuels. This network allows for more frequent, smaller refueling, reducing the need for large onboard fuel storage and preserving cargo capacity.

Working closely with our engineers, shipping partners, and feedstock managers, we are delivering meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions while providing dependable, real-world solutions for the maritime sector.
